Maintenance Manager

This position is based in Chula Vista, CA in support of the MTS Contract.

About the role

Oversees the day-to-day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff members. Maintenance facilities typically operate on a three-shift basis to ensure maintenance on equipment is completed; tests and inspections of products, services, and processes to evaluate quality or performance of that equipment are accomplished; and specifications are met to DOT, client, or company standards.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, and schedule Maintenance Technicians
• Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations
• Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors
• Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently
• Manage inventory
• Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements
• Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget
• Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods
• Other duties as required
• Travel requirement outside of immediate area: 10%
• Monitor and improve fleet reliability, preventive maintenance compliance, and road call performance
• Support regulatory compliance requirements associated with public transportation operations, including DOT, CHP, FTA, client, and company standards
• Ensure sufficient fleet availability to meet daily service requirements and contractual performance standards

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred
• 7+ years of experience in the maintenance and repair of public transit buses, school buses, or similar transportation fleets
• Demonstrated experience managing maintenance operations in a public transportation environment, including fleet availability, preventive maintenance compliance, and service reliability
• Strong knowledge of transit vehicle systems, including CNG, hybrid, or alternative fuel bus fleets preferred
• 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in a transit maintenance environment
• Broad understanding of transit bus mechanical systems and the operational requirements necessary to support daily revenue service
• Experience managing maintenance programs in a high-demand environment where vehicle availability and on-time service performance are critical
• Familiarity with laws & regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed
• Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason
• Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
• Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen

Preferred Experience

• Transit maintenance experience is strongly preferred
• Candidates with direct experience managing public transportation bus fleets will be given priority consideration due to the unique operational, regulatory, fleet availability, and service delivery requirements of this position

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions—100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
• Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise

Pay

Competitive compensation package of minimum $105,000 annually – maximum $120,000 annually.
