Maintenance Manager

About the role

ClarkDietrich, a leading manufacturer of cold-formed steel framing and interior and exterior finishing products in North America, offers a Maintenance Manager position at our Bristol, CT location. This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise in electricity, pneumatics, mechanical drives, and hydraulics, with a focus on fostering growth opportunities, community involvement, and a team-oriented atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs during machine service.
• Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.
• Performs mechanic skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Complies with OSHA safety and health rules.
• Improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality, and efficiency.
• Prepares and presents plans for process improvements and coordinates deployment, including training of team members.
• Assists Plant Manager in improving systems of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and training.
• Develops and maintains supply inventories of maintenance parts and machine components.
• Coordinates contract work of outside vendors for maintenance of facility or equipment.
• Maintains costs of maintenance labor and supplies within budget.
• Leads or participates on committees/teams as directed by the Plant Manager.
• Supervises a small group of mechanics performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of new equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or five years of maintenance management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Background in manufacturing methods, process improvement programs, and procedures.
• Planning ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6 month time span.
• Management skills to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience in employee training.
• Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods, including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
• Product development experience.
• Performs quality checks with attention to detail.
• Problem analysis and resolution skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in high-performance teams as a strong team player.
• Military equivalent experience recognized in lieu of education and/or experience.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting: Up to 20 lbs.
• Standing: 8 or more hours per day.
• Walking: Off and on, 4-6 hours per day.
• Body Positions: Squatting, bending, flexing, and extending both arms.
• Grasping: Both hands, up to 8 hours per day.
• Sitting: None.
• Pushing Effort: Carts of finished product and tools, up to 50 lbs.
• Pulling: Tools and finished product, up to 50 lbs.
• Climbing: Occasionally, including stairs.
