Maintenance Helper (First Shift)

This role involves general maintenance to minimize production downtime and support the production process in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain pressure washers, parts washers, and recovery systems.
  • Perform total preventative maintenance on wash machines and heat treat equipment.
  • Complete repair orders and maintain records of parts and supply usage.
  • Conduct daily inspections of washers, conveyor systems, heat treat machines, and other assigned equipment.
  • Follow all safety requirements when working with chemicals and maintain logs of work performed and test results.
  • Perform weekly, monthly, and annual facility audits and preventative maintenance activities, documenting all actions per Magna requirements.
  • Maintain 5S standards around washer lines, conveyors, and maintenance areas.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding machine issues and understand root causes to inform the appropriate team (Maintenance, Quality).
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures and audits.
  • Train new employees on machine operations as needed.
  • Assist with setting up displays, banners, and other tasks as required.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning interior and exterior building areas, restrooms, locker rooms, cafeterias, and common spaces.
  • Perform minor painting, carpentry, masonry, and maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing fixtures, switches, outlets, bulbs, ballasts, and minor appliances).
  • Reconfigure, install, and maintain modular offices, space furniture, wall panels, lighting, and storage systems.
  • Clean CNC coolant tanks and oversee bulk waste transfer processes.
  • Stop processes that do not meet quality or safety requirements and notify supervisors immediately.
  • Perform inventory of oils, coolers, and filters for washers.
  • Address minor maintenance tasks, including plumbing, roofing, drainage, and electrical repairs.
  • Remove snow and treat walkways during inclement weather.
  • Perform trash pickup for buildings and grounds.
  • Proactively maintain and improve overall safety as a service provider.
  • Treat team members with dignity and respect in accordance with Magna’s Employee Charter and Common Values.
  • Actively participate in MAFACT Teams, spill response teams, and annual training.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities, submit cost-saving suggestions, and participate in CIPs (Continuous Improvement Projects).
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including IATF 16949, ISO 14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
  • Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations, including wearing required PPE and Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately to management.
  • Comply with ISO 14001 responsibilities related to environmental management.

Requirements

  • Experience in an automotive stamping manufacturing environment with mechanical knowledge.
  • Mechanically inclined with a working knowledge of production parts washer equipment preferred.
  • Ability to work various shifts and overtime as required.
  • Experience with spray painting, rolling paint, and working with industrial paints.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and focus on cost-effective solutions.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Results-oriented team player with a high energy level.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures pertaining to the job is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain man-lift and hi-lo permits.
  • Ability to obtain Confined Space certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English, including safety rules and operating instructions.
  • Ability to document forms as required by the position.
  • Effective communication skills in English (both written and oral).
  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Active listening and professional communication skills; collaborative when working with others.
  • Understanding and ability to apply the 5 Why methodology.
  • Ability to think process-oriented and apply the MPTSH standard structured problem-solving process.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors at heights (up to 40 feet) and in confined spaces.
