About the role

Responsibilities
- Installation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, cleaning, and repair of containerboard plant machinery and equipment
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Repair or replace defective parts
- Install special functional and structural parts in devices
- Lubricate and clean parts
- Start devices to test their performance
- Set up and operate drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
- Move, position, and replace heavy equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls
- Push toolbox to work areas; carry, lift, and transport parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means
- Perform plant startup tasks, energizing all equipment and ensuring operation
- Oil and grease machines
- Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers
- Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment
- Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replace damaged or broken wire and cables
- Replace faulty electrical components on machines such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices
- Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards
- Replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors
- Plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings
- Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment
- Clean work area, tools, and equipment
- Utilize computer for work order entry and completion status
- Initiate purchase orders for parts for machines
- Engage in preventative maintenance processes in assigned areas
Requirements
- Knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery
- Maintenance experience in corrugated industry is a plus
- Strong knowledge of lubrication, hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, electrical, and electronics technologies
- Excellent teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to fully cross-train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities
- Able to work with computer systems for maintenance processes, stores, and work orders
- Provide own tools initially (tools worn out on the job will be replaced)
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Willing and able to work third shift, call-ins, holidays, and overtime
Skills
- Use of personal protective equipment: cut-resistant gloves and sleeves, heat-resistant gloves and sleeves, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, bump cap, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes
- Continuous use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, punches, screwdrivers, pliers, and pipe wrenches (ranging from a small 4” screwdriver to a 36” pipe wrench)
- Tasks range from fine adjustments requiring dexterity (e.g., circuit board adjustments) to applying force with both hands (e.g., breaking pipe fittings)
