About the role

Growers Transplanting, Inc. (GTI) is a leader in agricultural innovation with over 40 years of expertise in seedling production and field transplanting. The Maintenance II position at GTI is a regular, full-time hourly, non-exempt role within the Maintenance Department.

Responsibilities

  • Build and frame buildings/structures by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
  • Form & Place Concrete.
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.
  • Perform duties with all kinds of hand and power tools, including framing squares, levels, power saws and drills, nail guns, compressors, common hand and power tools as well as precision electrical and electronic testing devices, and generators.
  • Install electrical components like, light switches, receptacles, light fixtures, string lights, run conduits, and raceways.
  • Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems.
  • Trenching and subsurface pipe installation, backfill, & compaction.
  • Install or repair boilers and boiler mechanical functions (i.e., troubleshooting, maintenance, repair).
  • Manage building systems including heating/cooling, irrigation/fertigation and electrical.
  • Ensure operational efficiency of electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection and repair.
  • General plumbing, welding & fabrication, electrical, and carpentry skills.
  • Use Understanding of all necessary PPE and safety requirements.
  • Assess, diagnose, and evaluate problems of a mechanical, electrical, and/or structural nature.
  • Repair, replace, remove, and/or modify greenhouse structures and equipment to correct problems of a mechanical, electrical, and/or structural nature.
  • Repair or replace greenhouse, equipment, and controls; installing heating & irrigation valves, installing water pumps or other small motors.
  • Install electrical components like disconnects, load centers, light switches, receptacles, run conduits, and raceways.
  • Repair and replace wooden members within and around greenhouses.
  • Some plumbing duties include but not limited to running pipe in trenches, measure, cut, thread, glue, or weld pipe.
  • Weld Steam pipe and structures.
  • Pro-Actively create daily/weekly maintenance list to include all areas of the operating site.
  • Report weekly on progress of maintenance list to Supervisor with completion dates, materials used, and hours assigned.
  • Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on greenhouses, benching and surrounding areas to ensure proper operating conditions and appearance.
  • Read and interpret schematics/equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Keep accurate work records and turn in paperwork daily or as required.
  • Maintain detailed records of all repairs, as well as parts invoices that were required for the repairs.
  • Able to meet tight schedules.
  • Able to drive a tractor, forklift, aerial equipment, and trucks.
  • Able to quickly address critical and urgent situations in a timely and consistent manner.

Requirements

  • Must have 3-5 years in general construction field.
  • Must have minimum 3-5 years in greenhouse maintenance field.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends and be on call during peak seasons and some holidays.
  • Have experience with mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, and industrial fabrication.
  • Able to perform the duties of a Maintenance I.
  • Able to install, diagnose, repair, wire and maintain a variety of production and building equipment.
  • Intermediate welding experience in stick and wire feed welders.
  • Able to use measuring tools like rulers, tapes, squares, power tools etc.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Able to follow a series of directions.
  • Able to follow complex instructions.
  • Capable of performing routine math calculations, including percentages and fractions.
  • Must be detail oriented and thorough in their work.
  • Able to maintain a professional attitude.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively in written or oral form.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements, on-site safety, and cleanliness (minimum certification of OSHA 10 required).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute multiple tasks, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills to minimize equipment downtime.

Qualifications

  • Valid CA Driver License.
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
