About the role
We are seeking self-motivated individuals capable of performing various tasks in a fast-paced production environment. Key responsibilities include installation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, cleaning, and repair of containerboard plant machinery and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Moves and positions heavy weight equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls.
- Carries, lifts, and transports parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means.
- Performs plant startup tasks, energizing all equipment and ensuring operation.
- Oils and greases machines.
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wire and cables.
- Replaces faulty electrical components on machines such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
- Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
- Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
- Diagnoses and repairs faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
- Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
- Utilizes computer for work order entry and completion status.
- Initiates purchase order for parts for machines.
- Engages in preventative maintenance processes in assigned areas.
Requirements
Ensuring quality and safety knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery is essential. On-the-job success in safety, attendance, and quality of work is expected. Maintenance experience in corrugated is preferred. Strong knowledge of lubrication, hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, electrical, and electronics technologies is required. Excellent teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills are necessary. Willingness to cross-train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities. Familiarity with computer systems for maintenance processes, stores, and work orders is required. Initial provision of own tools is expected. Ability to work overtime as needed, including third shifts, call-ins, holidays, and overtime is necessary.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Relevant certifications in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery are beneficial. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

Hourly / Full-Time: 2-2-3 Schedule
Physical Demands
Requires pushing toolbox to work areas. Carrying, lifting, and transporting of parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means. Requires the use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, punches, screwdrivers, pliers, and pipe wrenches on a continuous basis to perform normal duties. Tasks range from fine adjustments that require dexterity for circuit board adjustments to using both hands to apply force when pushing or pulling a wrench to break pipe fittings.
