Machinist V, CNC Programmer

X-energy LLC is seeking a CNC Programmer/Machinist to support the manufacturing of high-precision components within the XTAC Workshop Facility. This role involves programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining advanced CNC machining equipment while adhering to strict safety protocols and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual machines, including dual-spindle lathes and 5-axis mills, to produce complex components within required tolerances.
• Develop CNC programs using CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, etc.) to create efficient and reliable toolpaths.
• Perform machining operations such as milling, turning, drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, broaching, and machining metallic and nonmetallic materials.
• Design and produce custom fixturing and workholding solutions; mount, align, and secure tooling and workpieces for optimal performance.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T symbols, and technical specifications to determine machining methods and tooling requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to implement new processes, tooling concepts, and manufacturing technologies.
• Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools (micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, etc.).
• Document all work activities clearly and completely in accordance with company procedures and traceability requirements.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and communicate equipment, process, or quality issues promptly to supervisors or engineering staff.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs to ensure optimal machine performance.
• Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and hazardous-materials handling requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with safety and 5S/lean workplace standards.
• Assist in training new team members on machine operation, shop practices, and safety procedures.
• Provide part design feedback for manufacturability to the Shop Manager.
• Assist in quoting, lead times, and tooling selection.
• Verify part conformance to model and/or blueprint.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to part machinability, process efficiency, and equipment utilization.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Workshop Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Fifteen (15) years of experience in a manufacturing environment with CNC programming and machine setup responsibilities.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve routine machine, tooling, and programming issues independently.
• Experience using precision measuring devices and inspection tools.
• Familiarity with industrial safety practices, emergency procedures, and hazardous-materials handling.
• Ability to work with common hand tools and basic shop equipment.
• Competence with basic computer applications and electronic data entry systems.
• Ability to push, pull, move, or lift at least 50 lbs.
• Willingness to obtain relevant technical and safety certifications (e.g., OSHA-30, forklift, hazardous materials, OEM machine certifications).

Qualifications

• Fully capable of programming complex parts on any machine.
• CAM software certification (e.g., Mastercam Certified Programmer, Siemens NX CAM Certification).
• Expert-level process planning from solid model to finished part.
• Experience developing complex fixtures (pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.).
• Ability to develop and edit post processors as needed.
• Subject-matter expertise in tooling technology.
• Capable of setting up lights-out machining with minimal operator input.
• Experience with automation integration, including robot tending, pallet systems, and adaptive machining.
• Ability to reverse engineer parts with only a sample and no drawing.
• Expertise in at least two major CAM platforms and advanced post-processor customization.
• Proficiency with advanced inspection technology, including CMM programming.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $48.00/hr–$60.00/hr. Offers within this range are commensurate with the individual’s qualifications, internal equity, market data, and growth potential.

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position. Hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
