Oerlikon Additive Manufacturing (AM) produces high-quality components for aerospace, defense, oil and gas, and semiconductors using metal additive 3D printers to manufacture complex metal prototypes or series parts rapidly without tooling.

About the role

As a Machinist I at our Huntersville facility, you will execute production orders and instructions to manufacture products. This is a critical role within the production team, contributing to the revolution of component manufacturing using cutting-edge technology.

This is a second shift position with core hours from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up machines (CNC, manual lathes, mills, grinders, etc.).
  • Operate machines under supervision to perform basic cutting, drilling, grinding, threading, and milling tasks.
  • Learn to read blueprints and work from detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect parts for quality and tolerances using basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for machining and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a team-based collaborative environment where priorities may shift regularly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and relay information to the team.
  • Experience working with basic shop tools and hand tools.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to wear a respirator when applicable.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of CNC machining processes (gaining practical skills).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (or willingness to learn).
  • Knowledge of GD&T symbols or willingness to learn (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of measurement tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a team.
  • Basic understanding of machine tools (milling, lathe, drill presses, CNC).
  • Experience with SAP or other shop floor data management systems.
