About the role

Under minimal supervision, sets up and operates computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. Repairs or produces parts using both manual and automated equipment with precise measurements in support of plant maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints
  • Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
  • Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, band saw, push and pull broaches, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment
  • Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics, and composites
  • Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling
  • Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
  • Evaluates experimental procedures and recommends changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production
  • Tracks parts and jobs into CMMS
  • Utilizes and abides by ISO requirements and safety procedures
  • Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions
  • Performs work wearing personnel protective equipment, including but not limited to: rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied air and air purifying respirators, safety harness, sand blast hoods, fire-resistant coveralls, hard hat, ear plugs, and safety glasses
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a machinist
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials
  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner
  • Full range of mobility in upper and lower body; able to reach overhead, work in various positions including stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and work at heights
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Ability to climb stairs and balance for extended periods of time
  • 3-5 years of experience in an industrial setting preferred
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check as a condition of employment
  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position
