Job Summary
The Machinist operates manual lathes and milling machines, to produce and repair high-quality, precision parts. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a proactive approach to efficiency.
About the Role
This role requires a safety-conscious team player capable of interpreting complex blueprints and working effectively with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual machine tools to fabricate or repair precision components, working within tight tolerances.
- Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machine setups, procedures, and optimal machining sequences.
- Utilize and interpret various precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers (ID/OD/depth), calipers, and pi tapes, to inspect parts and ensure they meet specifications.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
- Adjust machine feeds, speeds, and tool offsets as needed to maintain high-quality production.
- Operate overhead cranes safely to handle materials and parts.
- Maintain accurate inspection documentation and production records.
- Communicate effectively within a team environment and with supervisors to ensure priorities and assignments are met efficiently.
- Demonstrate a continuous commitment to improving efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
Qualifications
- Experience with equipment such as lathes, VTL, grinding and milling.
- Knowledge of general welding principles is preferred, but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent manual dexterity.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical documents, and work instructions.
- Intermediate mathematical skills for measurement, testing, and problem-solving.
- Solid critical thinking skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Able to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring work is consistently precise.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A trade school certificate or specialized education in machining is preferred.
- Previous experience operating manual machinery is required.
