About the role
The Machine Packer role involves packing products off machines and into cartons or containers according to customer specifications in a manufacturing facility. This position requires adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
Responsibilities
- Pack product off machine per orientation on stacking diagrams.
- Pack product into cartons without deforming the product.
- Ensure the carton quantity is correct, and every carton is labeled appropriately.
- Measure and test product. Identify defects in product and notify operator, stopping machinery if necessary.
- Maintain a pace that keeps up with machine throughput capabilities.
- Remove start-ups and screen for defects.
- Inspect and properly clear bag overflow area.
- Complete required quality checks by following the procedure required to complete the checks.
- Understand and operate E-stops, identifying safety-sensitive situations requiring their use (lockout/tagout).
- Properly set up and operate case sealing machine(s).
- Absorb and assist machine operator and other team members as needed (including, but not limited to, stacking cartons, screening bags, cleaning work area, and assisting nearby packers when assigned machine is down).
- Practice safe work and personal behavior with regards to equipment and task, including reporting near misses and using first aid.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area ensuring any instances of poor housekeeping are addressed and fixed quickly.
- Become fully proficient in packing, at a minimum, one core product type based on company standards, with the flexibility to move to different machinery (when requested).
- Be capable of working overtime as needed (based on production and department needs).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be capable of reading work instructions, safety rules, and a ruler.
- Must be capable of operating a calculator.
- Must be able to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be capable of maintaining good attendance.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- At least six (6) months of manufacturing work history desired.

Physical Demands

- Work is performed by using both hands and arms while in a standing position for the duration of the shift.
- Frequently bends, reaches, twists, pushes, pulls, squats, or kneels.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist on a regular basis.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 20 lbs. and overhead on occasion.

- Environment is typical of a manufacturing area; hearing protection is required due to the high noise level.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures depending on the season and area; limited temperature regulation is available.
- Presence of complex machinery and equipment; requires awareness of moving parts and operational hazards.
