Machine Operator I
About the role
Mueller Water Products, Inc., a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products and publicly traded company (NYSE: MWA), is the nation's leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries and North America's largest and only full-line supplier of potable water distribution products. The Machine Operator I is primarily responsible for operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe and mill machine, maintaining quality and safety standards; and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Set-ups mills and lathes by installing tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices.
- Loads or feeds mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
- Maintains specifications by observing milling, drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread cutting operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Constantly strive to improve processes and eliminate downtime.
- Work closely with Operations, Planning, and Leadership to ensure production KPI’s are met.
- Perform job duties on designated shift with flexibility to rotate shift if needed.
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills: ability to quickly ascertain a situation and be decisive in solving problems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Adaptable – ability to work in an ever-changing environment.
- Basic knowledge of CNC programing and machining technology.
- Interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- CNC Machining Certification preferred.
- Experience in CAD/CAM Nesting Software preferred.
- Experience with DMG Mori CNC machines and HAAS is a plus.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3 or more years operating and S/U experience on CNC equipment.
- Experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing type environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to stand in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to walk around in an industrial safety sensitive environment on an ongoing daily basis.
- Must have good manual dexterity (use of hands and fingers) to use a computer and multiple pieces of industrial equipment.
- Occasionally ascend or descend stairs.
Desired Qualifications
- CNC Machining Certification preferred.
- Experience in CAD/CAM Nesting Software preferred.
- Experience with DMG Mori CNC machines and HAAS is a plus.
