About the role

Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills, punch presses, power brakes, shears, or saws. May set up machining machines, make adjustments, and perform maintenance. Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs, and fixtures to measure close tolerances. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Work from written work orders, verbal instructions, or blueprints while keeping all signoffs and inspection buyoffs current.
  • Maintain a clean work area daily.
  • Use forklifts and/or pallet jacks to move materials, tooling, and load machining centers.
  • Set up fixtures on machines and dial in tooling balls.
  • Select, set, and load the correct cutting tools into the tool magazine.
  • Dry run programs prior to production to identify errors and work with the Machine Shop Lead to fix them.
  • Edit programming and regulate machine speeds, feeds, coolant, depth, etc.
  • Run production jobs on all machining centers.
  • Troubleshoot problems that may arise with machining operations.
  • Use SurfCam software to draw and create advanced-level tool paths.
  • Use drill presses, lathes, grinders, sanders, and other machining tools.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
  • Use ERP/MRP software.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient using computers and related software.
  • 2 years of experience using and reading scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (Department of Defense contractor requirement; visa sponsorship is not offered).

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to read and understand product drawings.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gage pins.
  • Knowledge of machining concepts and terminology.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions.
  • Ability to properly maintain and operate machining centers.
  • Advanced knowledge of Fanuc and Siemens controllers.
  • Attentiveness to detail and quality.
