LUH Aircraft Mechanic III Technical Inspector

About the role

The Aircraft Technical Inspector ensures assigned aircraft are maintained within required specifications and are airworthy before operation. This role involves inspecting repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. The inspector plans, conducts, and supervises aircraft technical inspections, develops and implements quality control and ground safety programs, and ensures compliance with contract specifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, components, and engines.
• Plan, conduct, and supervise aircraft technical inspections.
• Develop and implement quality control and ground safety programs.
• Evaluate personnel, verifying skills, training, and experience.
• Perform audits and inspections of work centers, ongoing maintenance actions, procedures, equipment, and facilities.
• Examine parts and components for conformance to design specifications to determine serviceability; tag parts as serviceable, unserviceable-reparable, or unserviceable-non-reparable.
• Monitor timeliness and applicability of maintenance technical data and technical library.
• Review maintenance source documents, inspection records, and initiate action on recurring discrepancies or trends.
• Manage the material deficiency and technical order improvement program.
• Review engineering investigation requests.
• Initiate and review quality deficiency reports, technical deficiency reports, and hazardous material reports.
• Conduct safety inspections, training, and drills.
• Inspect and verify proper completion and documentation of safety and flight discrepancies.
• Brief and debrief pilots and crew members assigned to functional check flights.
• Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
• Ensure compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis program, and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration.
• Provide guidance to lower-level technicians in aircraft repair and technical inspection techniques.
• Prepare evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance and repair activities.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Perform other qualified duties as requested.

Requirements

• Valid and up-to-date FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license.
• Five (5) years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience.
• One (1) year experience inspecting rotary wing aircraft (LUH preferred).
• Valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) or a minimum of five (5) years as an inspector on rotary wing aircraft (LUH preferred).
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US Citizenship required).

Skills

• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Efficient in record keeping and preparation of reports; capable of reviewing others' work for accuracy and conformity to standards.
• Proficient in the use of the Unit Level Logistics System-Aviation Enhanced (ULLS-AE).
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
• Ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
• Excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

• Walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
• Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
• Crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
• Lift heavy objects exceeding 50 pounds.
• Type using a standard keyboard to communicate through email and software applications.
• Handle dirty parts and lubricants.
• Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
• Operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklifts, etc.
• Work in normal office environments, maintenance shops, or outdoors.
• Work in drafty, noisy, and dirty environments.
• Exposure to extreme noise from operating equipment.
• Exposure to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.

Pay

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). The compensation range or hourly rate is provided as a good-faith estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws. In addition to the base hourly rate, you may be eligible for an additional health and welfare payment for each hour worked to ensure compliance with SCA minimums.
