About the role

The LUH72 Aircraft Mechanic III/Lead is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. This role involves troubleshooting and repairing aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. The worker applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls, and their components.
  • Lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
  • Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
  • Inspects all aircraft assigned.
  • Computes basic weight and balance records.
  • Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Ensures compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis program, and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration.
  • Prepares evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance repair and related activities.
  • Prioritizes workloads and leads teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls, and their components.

Requirements

  • Valid up-to-date A&P license.
  • Five (5) years aviation maintenance experience.
  • Five (5) years rotary wing aircraft experience.
  • Two (2) years on the assigned Mission Design Series LUH72 (MDS).

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • A working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ACN.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
  • Ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as cable tensiometers.

Skills

  • Proficient in the use of the Government STAMIS used to maintain Army aircraft forms and records.
  • Uses a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Uses a knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Uses a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Uses a working knowledge of technical publications and the Government STAMIS to make entries in aircraft logs and records.

Pay

$41.33 per hour.
