About the Role
This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on a fast-paced 41-bed NT4 Ortho-Urology Surgical Unit specializing in acute orthopedic and urology surgical patient care.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications (excluding IV push)
- Chart assessments and care plans
- Communicate with physicians
- Perform dressing changes, trach care, NG tube management, and ostomy care
- Reinforce discharge instructions
Requirements
- Valid LPN license in Illinois
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire
- College diploma in practical nursing
Skills
- Proficiency in wound care
- Experience with medical equipment (e.g., wound vacs, chest tubes, IV pumps, telemetry)
- Strong communication skills
Work Environment
The unit emphasizes teamwork, collaboration with therapists, and patient safety. Resources include educators, supervisors, and managers to support staff. The nurse may work alongside RNs or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel to ensure quality patient care.
