LPN OR Technician / Operating Room Technician - Operating Room

Qualifications

  • Education/Skills Required: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a surgical technology school with certification obtained within 12 months from graduation OR a currently Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
  • Mets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical.
  • Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with PC operation is preferred.
  • Must be able to take call as scheduled.
  • Must be self-motivated and technically adept.
  • Able to work independently under stressful conditions.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods.
  • AHA-BLS Certified is required or obtain within six months of hire or current non-AHA-BLS card will be honored up to renewal date.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Proof of 15 hours of continuing education yearly.
  • As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a primary scrub person and handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary before, during and after the surgical procedure.
  • Performs all cases that surgeons perform and circulates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Takes call for Main Campus OR Services as scheduled, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, and demonstrates excellent adaptation and coping skills.
  • Has excellent organizational skills and works as a team player.
  • Assists with the orientation, training, and serves as a mentor for new ORTs.
  • Assists in the education of all ORTs and assists in the education of certain specialties.
  • Competent in basic skills of an Endo Tech to float between Main Campus and ASC Endo as needed.
  • Works primarily at CVPH main campus with assignments to Ambulatory Surgery Center.
