About the Role

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of person(s) licensed by a State regulatory board to prescribe medication and treatment, or under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.

This is a PRN/Per Diem/Flex/Float position offering variable shifts across multiple Mercy Hospital facilities. Participation in the Gig Nursing Program requires flexibility, availability on short notice, and the ability to handle last-minute shift cancellations. The program does not guarantee shift hours and will be the first for cancellation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care using the nursing process under appropriate supervision.
  • Coordinate care with other departments while maintaining patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Float between designated Mercy Hospital facilities based on need and choice.
  • Schedule a minimum of 12 hours every 90 days, with a maximum of 30 hours per week (Sunday–Saturday).
  • Work 4, 8, or 12-hour shifts with variable shift incentives.

  • Behavioral Health (BH)
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Medical-Surgical (MS)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; comparable education and successful licensure considered.
  • Current LPN license in the hiring state, meeting all State Board of Nursing requirements.
  • One year of recent bedside LPN experience for Med Surg; two years for specialties (ED, ICU, etc.).
  • IV certification required.

Certifications

  • Medical-Surgical (MS): BLS
  • Critical Care (CC): BLS, ACLS
  • Emergency Department (ED): BLS, ACLS, & PALS

Physical Demands

  • Regularly push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

$30/hour + variable shift incentives.
