Lower School (3rd Grade) Homeroom Teacher

Greensboro Day School seeks an experienced lower school teacher for a full-time 3rd Grade Homeroom Teacher position for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a 10-month, on-campus role requiring occasional evening and weekend work.

The Lower School Homeroom Teacher teaches all core subjects (math, Language Arts, social studies, and science) and designs developmentally appropriate, engaging learning experiences guided by evidence-based practices and cognitive research.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and assess student learning effectively.
• Design curriculum aligned with child and adolescent developmental stages and the School’s mission.
• Use varied instructional and assessment methods, including brain-based strategies (e.g., movement, interleaving) to maximize learning.
• Implement best-practice pedagogical strategies such as direct instruction, collaborative learning, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on activities.
• Communicate clear expectations for student success and provide timely, actionable feedback.
• Understand each student’s strengths and growth areas and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Manage the classroom to ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment.
• Collaborate with counseling and learning support staff to implement recommended teaching strategies.
• Cultivate an appreciation for diverse perspectives and approaches to learning.
• Develop and update curriculum frameworks and syllabi in collaboration with colleagues and leadership.
• Participate in the Professional Growth and Development Program (Danielson Framework).
• Serve as an advisor, organize clubs, attend assemblies, and participate in committees (e.g., Grade Level Team, Student Services Team).
• Engage in school community life by attending events, chaperoning field trips, and communicating with parents.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and teaching certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience preferred.

Working Conditions

• Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including participation in safety drills (CPR, first aid, tourniquet application, and administering epi-pens).
• Occasional weekend, evening, or early morning work.
• Frequent exposure to loud sounds and high noise levels.

Physical Requirements

• Assist students with toileting, hand washing, and other personal care tasks.
• Move quickly and frequently between standing and sitting, including sitting on small chairs or the floor.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Traverse the classroom, bend, or lean to engage with students at their level.
• Ensure student safety during drills and emergencies.
