Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in General Paediatrics and Community Child Health

About the role

NHS Tayside seeks a Locum Consultant in General Paediatrics with an interest in Community Child Health. The post has been created following retirals and vacant sessions within the service and may develop into a substantive position in the future (this cannot be guaranteed). The role is likely based in Dundee, with the expectation that some sessions may be located throughout Tayside. You will join a supportive, forward‑thinking team that serves a population of 414,130 across Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Angus, providing paediatric care to approximately 67,100 children under 16. Community paediatric bases are located at Armitstead Child Development Centre (Dundee), Drumhar Health Centre (Perth) and Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre (Forfar, Angus). The department participates in several regional and national managed clinical networks, is committed to teaching undergraduates from Dundee, and hosts resident doctors in training who rotate to Forth Valley and Edinburgh.

Responsibilities

• Hold a CCT in general paediatrics and demonstrate clinical skills to lead a paediatric ward, including management of the acutely unwell child, leading resuscitations and coordinating Paediatric Intensive Care transfers.
• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in the acute ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit and Paediatric High Dependency Unit.
• Provide clinical supervision of junior medical and nursing colleagues.
• Maintain an interest in Neurodevelopmental assessment and/or Child Protection.
• Contribute to Community Child Health services, which may be locality‑based or Tayside‑wide.
• Participate in regular team meetings and joint training within the wider CCH team and across specialties with neonatal and general paediatric colleagues.
