Localization Copy Editor
About the role
The Localization Copy Editor is responsible for writing and editing in-game text and voiceover scripts for all Nexon games. They assist in deciding new style rules and keep tabs on the copy editing progress of assigned games.
We are currently working in a hybrid work model, 2-3 times a week in the office.
Job Responsibilities
- Edit and culturalize translated game text and voiceover scripts to make them entertaining, immersive, accurate, and relatable to a western audience.
- Contribute to discussions about text issues in Nexon’s games and other communication channels.
- Create and update various localization documents, including style guides, NPC documents, story bibles, process guides, proper noun pages, Q’s docs, QA notes, etc.
- Guide the style direction of assigned Nexon games by initiating style discussions with the project manager and copy editing lead.
- Keep ownership of the copy editing tasks of assigned games by ensuring each content update’s editing progress, dividing work among editors, checking that all tasks are completed, and notifying the project manager if things start to fall off track or if the team encounters any obstacles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
- 2-3 years game-related work experience
- 3-5 years professional writing experience
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in English preferred
- Creative writing background preferred
Knowledge/Skills
- Excellent grammar and copy-editing skills
- Familiarity with CMoS
- Able to edit to specific established voices and styles while faithfully conveying the source material's vision
- Avid player of anime-style character-collecting mobile games, such as Girls Frontline and Azur Lane
- Able to multitask and prioritize in a busy, deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with sharp attention to detail
- Able to work well with a variety of stakeholders with differing priorities and requirements
- Able to give and receive constructive feedback
- Previous game localization experience a plus
- Familiarity with editing game strings with codes, localization QA testing, and text tools/CAT tools a plus
- Experience editing voiceover scripts and attending voiceover sessions a plus
Compensation Description
The base salary range for this position in El Segundo, CA is $29.00 - $35.00 hourly. Our salary ranges are determined by market data based on position and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum salaries for that position. An individual’s pay is determined by factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experiences, relevant education or training, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
