About the Role
The Outside Loan Officer’s primary role is to source, qualify, and originate mortgage loans by working primarily outside the Company’s offices to solicit and obtain business from referral sources such as realtors, builders, financial service providers, and others, as well as borrowers directly.
Responsibilities
- Comply with outside sales and reporting obligations, duties, requirements, and guidelines.
- Produce loans according to targets set by manager.
- Uphold the integrity of the brand.
- Familiarize yourself with originating loans and properly qualify consumers to issue pre-approvals according to guidelines.
- Monitor loan pipeline through Lenders Office and productivity via reporting tools.
- Ensure compliance with all government and regulatory requirements.
- Determine your own hours of work; no specific number of hours per week is required.
- Complete loan application forms using information from prospective borrowers.
- Set yearly goals and attend meetings with manager.
- Educate borrowers and communicate regularly with borrowers, listing brokers, and selling brokers.
- Analyze prospective borrower’s income and debt to pre-qualify them for the maximum mortgage amount they can afford.
- Educate prospective borrowers on the home buying and financing process, including different loan products and how closing costs and monthly payments vary.
- Maintain regular contact with borrowers, realtors, and the Company between application and closing to update status and gather additional information.
- Collect financial information (tax returns, bank statements) and other related documents for the application process.
- Order in-file credit reports when required by the Company.
- Determine whether the property is in a flood area, where required by the Company.
- Attend the closing of the mortgage loan, if requested by the company.
- Comply with the Loan Officer Compensation Agreement regarding compensation limits.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Company handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Able to comply with the policies and procedures outlined in the Company Handbook.
- Current license through NMLS and in good standing.
- Knowledge of Freddie Mac (FHLMC), Fannie Mae (FNMA), FHA, and VA.
- Two (2) years prior mortgage or mortgage banking experience.
- Ability to deliver effective results and meet deadlines.
- History of exceeding sales goals.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automotive insurance.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent phone and service skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships within the real estate community.
- Timely communication and response times according to department standards.
Travel
As needed, travel internationally between the United States and Mexico to meet business needs.
Language
English preferred; bilingual (English/Spanish) desired.
