Responsibilities

This non-exempt position operates a front-end loader and other heavy equipment in support of asphalt plant operations. The Front Loader Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently handling raw materials, maintaining adequate stockpile inventories, loading cold feed bins, and supporting plant production activities. This position is also responsible for the daily maintenance, inspection, and upkeep of equipment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and production goals.

Discussing plans for the day's work with the field manager, reviewing blueprints if necessary, and determining the best method of getting assigned work done safely, accurately, and on time are key aspects of the role. The operator must adjust hand levers and depress pedals to operate equipment and control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms. Equipment maintenance duties include cleaning, greasing, and oiling machines. The operator must utilize their experience in operating equipment to develop a feel for various levers and attachments and to develop skills such as fine grading and cutting slopes.

The operator must ensure that other workers stay clear of the machine while working in tight places and ensure teamwork between themselves and other operators working at the project site. Making judgments regarding the most efficient operations of equipment and attachments is also crucial. Compliance with company policies, including equipment repair/maintenance procedures and operator safety standards, is essential.

Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years operating a front-end loader or similar equipment is required. A valid driver's license is also necessary. A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is a plus. Related work experience is required, and the ability to work day and night shifts as needed is essential.

Skills

  • Very good hand, foot, and eye coordination to safely operate equipment
  • Ability to operate for extended periods and to get into awkward positions when cleaning and providing maintenance to the equipment
  • Extensive and heavy physical activity and dexterity are required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal) and time management skills
  • Specific types of vision: close, color, peripheral
