Responsibilities
- Aid attorneys in all stages of litigation cases from onset through post-trial
- Oversee organization, maintenance, and utilization of electronic and hard-copy documents and other case-related materials
- Assist attorneys and other paralegals in large-scale projects outside of typical litigation scope
- Participate in document reviews and document productions
- Conduct analytical tasks, review and summarize documents and deposition transcripts
- Perform basic legal research, locate cases, statutes, and regulatory materials
- Assist with law and motion practice, assemble motion papers and exhibits, coordinate filings of pleadings and briefs, ensure proper service
- Draft common pleadings, motions, notices, and other court filings
- Perform and oversee authority and fact cite-checking, confirm case quotes, proofread briefs and other legal documents
- Assist with trial preparations, create trial notebooks, identify and organize exhibits, coordinate witness schedules, maintain trial calendars, communicate with opposing counsel and courtroom staff
- Assist with post-trial filings, including briefing, motions for costs and sanctions, organize the case for an appeal if necessary
- Maintain timely and accurate timekeeping records on a daily basis
- Perform other duties as requested
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and Paralegal Certification preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum of 10 or more years of experience as a Litigation Paralegal working on complex litigation matters within a multi-lawyer law firm
- NALA certification preferred
- Exceptional computer skills, with the ability to learn and apply new software applications quickly
- Trial experience, including exhibit preparation, witness preparation, and management, knowledge of subpoena preparation, experience working with judicial assistants and trial presentation vendors, experience assisting attorneys in the courtroom
- Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as document management
- Proficiency with e-filing and litigation support applications such as e-discovery platforms (e.g., Everlaw or Relativity), FileSite/WorkSite, Adobe Acrobat, cloud-based file-sharing platforms / FTP link platforms, and similar technology
- Communicate professionally and interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff while anticipating the needs of attorneys, clients, and matters
- Demonstrated attention to detail, reliability, outstanding organizational skills, and ability to learn new technology
- Excellent client service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision
- Skilled at drafting clear and concise memoranda, detailed fact summaries, pleadings, and other documents
- Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to shifting deadlines and/or strict deadlines, with the willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed, including weekends
