Job Summary

The Paralegal will support attorneys by performing a variety of tasks including legal research, document preparation, case management, and administrative duties. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of legal procedures and terminology.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Aid attorneys in the preparation and management of cases, including drafting and organizing legal documents, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests, and responses.
  • Review, organize, and analyze case files, discovery documents, and evidence.
  • Aid with document production in compliance with court orders, client requests, and deadlines.
  • Aid with the preparation and response to discovery requests (interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions).
  • Track and manage discovery deadlines and responses.
  • Prepare and electronically file legal documents with local, state, and federal courts. Ensure compliance with filing deadlines and procedural requirements (i.e. NYSCEF, PACER, etc.).
  • Assist with arbitration hearing preparation, including the preparation of exhibits, witness lists, and hearing binders. Coordinate with witnesses and experts for hearing support.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including the preparation of exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders. Coordinate with witnesses and experts for trial support.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, attorneys, and third parties. Ensure effective communication regarding case developments, deadlines, and required information.
  • Maintain case files, update case management systems, and track deadlines. Assist with billing, timekeeping, and file organization.
  • Additional responsibilities specific to your assigned practice group may be required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Relevant Paralegal certification (i.e. ACEBS) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal or in a legal support role.
  • Work experience as a practicing paralegal in litigation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Westlaw, Westlaw Edge, and Aderant, preferred.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships while working effectively and cooperatively with all levels of professional and support staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational workflow and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Excellent internet and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Ability to act with integrity and professionalism, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to take initiative, be flexible, and demonstrate resiliency.
