Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Docketing of all case, agency and client deadlines, and maintaining summaries of deadlines as needed
  • Drafting pleadings, cite-checking and proofreading of pleadings, legal memoranda, agency submissions, and correspondence
  • Filing and service of pleadings in all assigned cases and matters
  • Aiding attorneys with preparation for client meetings, depositions, discovery requests and responses, document review, court and agency hearings, trial, and post-judgment matters, and attending same and providing further assistance as needed
  • Performing legal, factual, client, and agency research as well as environmental due diligence research, and drafting summaries of research findings
  • Drafting and maintaining indices of case information
  • Performing routine review and compilation of case pleadings from court cases, permit files from agencies, and clients’ incoming and outgoing documents
  • Maintaining clients’ electronic file with key research, correspondence, memoranda and pleadings
  • Performing limited travel as necessary

Required and Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified to work as a Paralegal in California and meet the requirements of Business and Professions Code section 6450, including Bachelor’s Degree and/or qualifications to be a paralegal by certification or education and work experience as set forth by the American Bar Association and/or applicable statute
  • 5+ years of experience in litigation support, handling complex cases
  • Experience with Natural Resources (e.g. land use, CEQA, water, real property), trial preparation, and case management
  • Skilled in drafting motions, discovery, and trial documents
  • Skilled in filing and serving court documents electronically in state and federal courts (trial and appellate)
  • Strong communication skills (including experience coordinating with court clerks)
  • Strong foundation in legal research and drafting, use of legal resources databases (Westlaw, etc.), factual research, and possesses a high degree of adaptability in handling complex cases
  • Experienced in document review and coordinating document productions (Relativity)
  • Proficient in monitoring court dockets and managing team calendars (Compulaw) and coordinating schedules
  • Experienced in preparing trial binders and compiling exhibits for trials and depositions
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a reputation for meticulous document management
  • Outstanding precision and attention to detail in proofreading legal documents and correspondence

Compensation and Benefits

  • Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k + match, profit sharing, and vacation/sick/personal time off.
  • We are offering a salary range of $80,000-$110,000 for this position, commensurate on experience and location.
