Litigation Associate

About the Role

Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP's Tampa, Florida office is seeking an exceptional associate to join its litigation practice. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for litigation and who take a proactive approach and ownership of their work. Candidates must have a strong commitment to client service and want to develop and grow their litigation skills by working alongside exceptional attorneys.

Where You'll Work

This is an in-person position in the Tampa, Florida office.

What You'll Do

• Litigate commercial disputes from inception through resolution
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal memoranda
• Take and defend depositions
• Prepare for and handle or participate in hearings, mediations, and trials
• Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management
• Communicate with clients, experts, and opposing counsel
• Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar
• A minimum of 3 years of commercial litigation experience in state and federal court, including experience handling depositions and presenting in court
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines
• Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal rules of procedure
• Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in federal court and in arbitration is preferred but not required
