Litigation Associate

About the Role

The St. Petersburg, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP has an opportunity for an associate to join its Litigation & Disputes service line. This is an in-person position with occasional flexibility to work remotely (1-2 days per week).

Responsibilities

• Manage and support a diverse commercial litigation caseload
• Research complex legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda
• Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
• Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management
• Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and courts
• Analyze complex legal and factual issues and develop litigation strategies
• Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar (or awaiting July FL Bar exam results)
• 1-6 years of litigation experience; 2026 law school graduates who have taken the 2026 Florida Bar exam will also be considered
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
• Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal rules of procedure
• Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Physical Requirements

• Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day, with a static sitting position for up to one-half hour at a time
• Standing or walking frequently, up to six hours per day
• Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day
• Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day
