About the role

The Line Assist plays a critical role in maintaining control over the production line, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. This position supports the team by troubleshooting issues, enforcing procedures, and fostering a productive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control over the production line (Machine and Manpower).
• Escalate problems to the Group Lead and document machine issues/tool changes in L2L.
• Complete job observations and provide oversight to ensure operators follow procedures and safely build quality products.
• Communicate daily production activities to Group Leads, including downtime documentation and updates to Hour by Hour boards and production logs.
• Notify and coach operators on problems, providing support as needed.
• Troubleshoot product quality and performance issues, performing repairs within knowledge/experience limits.
• Assist Maintenance and Process Engineering (PE) with problem resolution and repairs.
• Maintain a safe, neat, clean, and organized production line environment.
• Enforce and coach team members on PPE, 5S, processes, and procedures, escalating repetitive problems to the Group Lead:
  • Ensure PPE is worn at all times (e.g., white shoes and smocks).
  • Enforce 5S end-of-shift cleanup for each operator.
• Assist the production line with start-up/shutdown procedures, problem resolution, and addressing bottlenecks.
• Motivate the team toward performance goals and adjust personnel line-up as needed in coordination with the Group Lead.
• Communicate changeover activities with support departments (e.g., subcontractors, warehouse).
• Ensure training is handled consistently per outlined procedures, including:
  • Completing Days 1 & 2 training for new operators.
  • Ensuring new hires read and understand work instructions for their designated area.
  • Coaching operators on the Stop, Call, Wait policy.
  • Completing training guides for all new operators.
• Lead by example during start-of-shift meetings, covering safety, quality, and machine issues.
• Ensure all operators follow procedures and work instructions per ISO14000 and TS16949 standards.
• Verify completion of production, scrap, and downtime reports accurately and timely.
• Coach operators on filling out scrap tickets fully and support the Group Lead with end-of-shift reporting.
• Conduct in-process inspections using check sheets, indicators, and gauges as described in procedures.
• Monitor equipment for unusual sounds, movements, or appearances and address abnormalities.
• Change simple parts and fixtures to facilitate product changeovers.
• Visually and manually check for defects in product or workmanship.
• Record process equipment settings and conditions using verification check sheets (PEV/IPIS).
• Complete the following documentation each shift:
  • PEV/IPIS within the first two hours of shift start.
  • 4M sheet.
  • Complete QSF-130-68-69 and QSF-130-68-70 training.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Three (3) years of manufacturing experience, with preference in equipment set-up, CNC machining, measurements, and calculations.
• Ability to read and write to follow work order instructions and prepare simple production reports.
• Basic math skills.
• Manual dexterity to operate machines properly.
• Visual acuity (corrected) to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts/products.
• Physical ability to perform work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
• Strength to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently.

Physical Demands

• Frequent walking and occasional standing, sitting, and use of hands to handle tools or controls.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, or pulling.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to talk and hear in a loud work environment.

Work Environment

This position works in a warehouse/production environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually loud, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas.
