As a Line Assist, you will play a key role in maintaining production efficiency, safety, and quality on the manufacturing floor.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control over the production line, including both machinery and manpower.
• Escalate problems to the Group Lead and document machine issues or tool changes in L2L.
• Complete job observations and provide oversight to ensure operators follow procedures while safely building a quality product.
• Communicate daily production activities to Group Leads, including downtime documentation and updates to Hour by Hour boards and production logs.
• Provide coaching and support for operator problems, including troubleshooting product quality and performance within your knowledge or experience.
• Assist Maintenance and Process Engineering (PE) with problem resolution and repairs.
• Maintain a safe, neat, clean, and organized production line environment.
• Enforce and coach team members on PPE, 5S, processes, and procedures, including:
  • Ensuring PPE is worn at all times (e.g., white shoes and smocks).
  • Overseeing end-of-shift cleanup for each operator.
• Consistently enforce company rules and escalate repetitive problems to the Group Lead.
• Support production line operations by:
  • Ensuring start-up and shutdown procedures are completed.
  • Addressing bottlenecks and resolving line problems.
  • Motivating the team to meet performance goals.
  • Adjusting personnel line-up as needed in coordination with the Group Lead.
  • Communicating changeover activities with support departments (e.g., subcontractors, warehouse).
• Ensure training is handled consistently and properly, including:
  • Completing Days 1 and 2 training for all new operators.
  • Ensuring new hires read and understand work instructions for their designated area.
  • Coaching operators on the Stop, Call, Wait policy.
  • Completing training guides for all new operators.
  • Ensuring all operators in your assigned area perform functions consistently.
• Lead start-of-shift meetings to cover safety, quality, and machine issues, ensuring meetings start on time and operators participate.
• Ensure compliance with ISO14000 and TS16949 standards, including:
  • Ensuring associates follow procedures and work instructions (PEV, IPIS, WI’s, training guides).
  • Ensuring production, scrap, and downtime reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coaching operators to fully complete scrap tickets.
  • Supporting the Group Lead with end-of-shift reporting documentation.
• Perform in-process inspections to check product and component dimensions using gauges and indicators as described in procedures or work instructions.
• Monitor equipment for unusual sounds, movements, or appearances and address abnormalities.
• Change simple parts and fixtures to facilitate product changeovers.
• Visually and manually inspect products for defects or workmanship issues.
• Record process equipment settings and conditions using equipment verification check sheets (PEV/IPIS) within the first two hours of each shift.
• Complete the 4M sheet each shift.
• Complete QSF-130-68-69 and QSF-130-68-70 training.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Three (3) years of manufacturing experience, with preference in equipment setup, CNC machining, measurements, and calculations.
• Ability to read and write sufficiently to follow work order instructions and prepare simple production reports.
• Basic math skills.
• Manual dexterity to operate machines properly.
• Visual acuity (corrected) to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts.
• Physical ability to perform work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
• Physical strength to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to walk and occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, push, pull, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

This position works in a warehouse/production environment. The employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, and the noise level is usually loud. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in certain manufacturing areas.
