Responsibilities
- Store and retrieve goods in the storage area, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first.
- Note and report any damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
- Record items added or removed from inventory.
- Use an industrial forklift and hand-held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
- Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers following written or verbal instructions while adhering to department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform minor service of equipment and complete written daily safety inspections.
- Identify and report noted problems to supervisor for further inspection and repair.
- Change fuel bottles, refuel forklift, or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
- Maintain the work area, dock, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, adhering to storage design principles and recommending improvements.
- Create product labels for inventory purposes.
- Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
- Complete various reports daily and enter required information into computer programs efficiently and timely.
- Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
- Consolidate partial pallets as directed by production supervisor.
- Maneuver forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members.
- Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members and attend appropriate team meetings.
- Foster strong team cohesiveness regarding major issues and identify areas lacking cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader.
- Support Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies).
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Physical Activities
- Climb on and off the forklift; turn neck and body in opposite direction to safely back up forklift.
- Lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
- Work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), wet, dry, and dusty environments.
- Sit and walk for long periods of time.
- Lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a company-issued forklift license.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
Skills
- Knowledge of Julian calendar and FIFO practices.
- Preferred experience in shipping and receiving, working with large moving equipment.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Knowledge of military time, RFGEN, and JDE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipping and receiving knowledge.
