Background
Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a full-time Tax Paralegal Navigator for its Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). The LASO LITC provides legal assistance to low-income Oregonians with federal tax controversy and related state tax matters. The LITC also offers education and outreach to communities where English is not the primary language spoken at home.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Outreach Team to develop and grow capacity for hosting Facilitated Self-Assistance clinics across the state, including attending community events.
- Support the LITC in extending tax assistance and education to underserved areas of the state.
- Identify and address significant issues impacting the client community and engage in advocacy to support change.
- Provide administrative support to the Program Director by assisting with day-to-day tasks, processing invoices, preparing grant reports, and handling clients as needed.
- Conduct trauma-informed intake interviews.
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of tax or other regulatory program navigation or case management.
- Read, write, and speak English, including public speaking.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficient work product.
- Proven interest and commitment to advocacy for legal rights and access to the law for low-income Oregonians.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, initiative, and willingness to work collaboratively and learn independently.
- Treat team members with courtesy and collegiality.
- Meet high standards of excellence and willingness to adapt to changing needs.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to anti-bias principles, cultural competency, and addressing systemic racism and other forms of oppression.
Benefits
- Salary range is $46.2K – 52.2K for 0-5 years’ experience; $53.4K - 58.2K for 6-10 years’ experience and $59.4K-70.2K for 11-20 years’ experience annually.
- Additional annual compensation of $4,300 to $5,700 is available for bilingual ability, depending on proficiency.
