Life Sciences Underwriter - Products and Excess

Responsibilities

This role, a key contributor within the Berkley Life Sciences organization, is responsible for the new business marketing and production, renewal underwriting and service of business for an assigned group of producers. Additionally, this position can grow to include direct management of other underwriters as well as responsibility for their results.

Responsible for account solicitation, risk selection and analysis including the corresponding documentation, pricing and marketing of Berkley Life Sciences products and services for new and existing customers.

Business development results for assigned territories

• Identify opportunities for account rounding.
• Provide technical support to producers and insureds.

Stay current with all compliance, procedural and workflow changes.

• Work collaboratively and effectively with, underwriting associate, operations, legal, home office underwriting and claims.
• Engage in innovation initiatives, product launches, marketing campaigns and short-term projects as appropriate to contribute positively towards success of the overall team and company.

Qualifications

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Calm under pressure. Excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks.
• Strong sense of accountability, fun and adventure.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers. A strong customer service bias. Super responsive.
• Natural curiosity. Love learning how things work and always looking for innovative improvements.
• An analytical mind. Love to dive into the details of an account in order to craft pricing and coverage that meet underwriting guidelines, profitability models and customer needs.
• A minimum of 8 years of underwriting experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities. Claims made experience a plus. Life Science Products Liability experience.
• Occasional travel requirements.
• Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products.
