Life Safety Lead Technician

A sign-on bonus of $6,283 is available for the successful applicant, paid in 2 installments within 12 months of hire: $3,141.50 within 30 days of hire date and $3,141.50 12 months after hire date.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support, training, and orientation to all technicians assigned to the Life Safety Shop.
• Review and approve system programming changes prior to downloading.
• Review and submit Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) system programming changes.
• Perform FACP system programming downloads and/or be present for all downloads.
• Update copies of all system programming changes and submit to the Life Safety Shop Supervisor immediately for storage on the appropriate network drive.
• Ensure workload schedules are accomplished as issued; notify Supervisor immediately of any deviations, delays, or early completions.
• Perform major or complex installations and modifications to Life Safety systems, including Fire Detection and Suppression Systems and Equipment Monitoring Systems.
• Conduct walk-through inspections, above-ceiling inspections, pre-final inspections, and final 100% acceptance building commissioning inspections, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., N.C. Building Code, NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NCSCO requirements).
• Initiate punch-lists of deficiencies or discrepancies and perform completed punch-list re-inspections.
• Ensure technicians complete all Preventive Maintenance (PM) Inspections and repairs on Life Safety Systems on schedule and in accordance with manufacturer specifications, NFPA 12A, NFPA 25, NFPA 72, and the International Fire Code.
• Obtain and maintain required licenses from the N.C. State Board of Examiners, including NICET certifications, to legally perform inspections, repairs, and system modifications.
• Utilize laptop computers for system diagnostic interrogations, troubleshooting, programming, and configuring peripheral printers to extract system histories and generate sensitivity reports.
• Perform specialized programming on Equipment Alarm Systems to ensure system integrity and meet individual customer/departmental application needs.

Requirements

• NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
• NICET Level II certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems.
• Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors.
• Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors.
• Individuals not holding the above certifications/licenses must obtain them within specified timeframes (3–4 years) at the university’s expense as a condition of continued employment.
• Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire date.
