Job Responsibilities

• Selects, trains, evaluates and counsels and disciplines inmates assigned to shock/YOIS unit.
• Orients, trains, evaluates, counsels and disciplines inmates assigned to shock/YOIS unit.
• Inspects posts to ensure proper performance of duties.
• Stays abreast on policies, procedures and program rules and regulations.
• Investigates and documents incidents as required by policy.
• Maintains physical fitness, dress and grooming standards and conducts fitness training, drill and ceremony.
• Chairs case management committees for offenders.
• Ensures that staff are in compliance with agency policy and YOIS policy.
• Counsels and disciplines inmates assigned to shock/YOIS unit.
• Conducts periodic inspections across shift to ensure that security staff are knowledgeable and performing job duties as required.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• SCDC Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three (3) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
