About the role
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate part-time Licensed Practical Nurses to provide professional nursing care and services to our consumers in our residential homes. In this role, you get the opportunity to build lasting relationships while practicing your nursing skills.
Responsibilities
- Takes, monitors, and records vital signs (e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate).
- Observes, records and reports symptoms, reactions and changes in patient condition.
- Performs triage.
- Assists physicians and registered nurses during patient examinations.
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications, treatments and therapies.
- Inventories, orders and stocks medications and medical supplies.
- Educates staff, families, and patients on routine care and prevention procedures.
- Maintains medical charts and records.
- Schedules patients' appointments.
- Transports individuals to medical appointments.
- Performs other work as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Possess licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
- Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
- Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
- This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
- Experience with an electronic health record preferred.
Skills
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing; of medical terminology.
- Ability to apply simple nursing techniques; to record accurate information on patients' charts; to follow verbal and written directions; to follow established policies and procedures; to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Schedule
- Overnight shifts and some evening shifts needed.
