GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service, assisting Medical Providers to provide quality patient care and education.
  • Maintains efficient and effective patient flow within Medical Units.
  • Safeguards a safe environment while adhering to local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, NYSDOH).

Operation / Planning Responsibilities

  • Daily schedules in EMR and promptly rooms patients.
  • Completes assignments promptly with minimal assistance or overtime.
  • Sets up exam rooms, offices, and stocks supplies daily and as needed.
  • Orients new employees, escorts and directs patients, and supports them.
  • Prepares exam rooms and cleans equipment between patients using disinfectant wipes.
  • Aids in triage procedures and communicates patient condition changes to providers.
  • Flexibly adjusts work flow based on patient conditions and unit workload.
  • Collaborates with RN Care Coordinators to assist patients with eligibility and service programs.
  • Maintains current health screenings and ensures paperwork is completed.
  • Maintains licenses, registrations, and certifications as required.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains punctuality and efficient patient flow.

Data Collection / Documentation Responsibilities

  • Accurately takes and records vital signs.
  • Captures and records patient data consistently.
  • Collects and records computer patient data as necessary.
  • Recognizes and reports high-risk situations immediately.
  • Accurately collects and documents CQI data and other required data.
  • Maintains accurate patient correspondence and documentation.
  • Ensures legible and accurate charting, referrals, labs, and other forms.

Implementation Responsibilities

  • Uses acceptable technical skills in patient care.
  • Follows established protocols or clinical guidelines in providing care.
  • Adheres to infection control policies in administering care.
  • Considers age-related requirements and special patient needs.
  • Reinforces patient and family teaching.
  • Administers medications safely according to policies.
  • Assists providers as needed.
  • Keeps patients informed of delays.

Miscellaneous

  • Exhibits excellence in internal and external customer service.
  • Understands and communicates HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
  • Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., DHHS HRSA and NYSDOH), and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission and NCQA-PCMH).
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint Commission and Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a registered approved program for Licensed Practical Nurses with current NYS registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • One to two years patient care experience.
  • Excellent customer service and good communication skills.
  • One to two years physician office experience preferred.
  • Basic computer keyboard knowledge.
  • Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes.
  • Training in laboratory/phlebotomy techniques.
  • Knowledge of managed care requirements.

Salary Range

$28.40 - $34.42 hourly
