Licensed Practical Nurse LPN Birth Place L&D

Part-time position in the Birthplace/Labor & Delivery unit, which includes eight Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, nine Triage/Recovery beds, and three Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum rooms. The unit also features two surgical delivery rooms, totaling 20 beds to facilitate family-centered care for low- and high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum mothers and newborns.

Nationally, only 217 facilities met Leapfrog safety standards for excellence in maternity care by adhering to protocols that protect moms and babies, maintaining low rates of C-section, episiotomy, and early elective deliveries. The unit also provides surgical procedures and triage for GYN patients, with specialized training offered for all aspects of obstetrical and GYN care.

Responsibilities

• Provide family-centered therapeutic nursing interventions, hands-on skills, family/caregiver education, goal setting, critical thinking, and care planning.
• Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team including OB providers, certified nurse midwives, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, lactation consultants, OB technicians, social workers, and spiritual care.
• Participate in precepting and mentoring students and new staff.
• Ensure quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
• Utilize the Nursing Process to plan, direct, and supervise patient care, including direct involvement in the provision of care for patients and families.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current LPN licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York.
• One year of clinical experience with medication administration preferred.
• Participates in orientation and continuing education; updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
• Current BLS & CPR certifications.

Work Environment

• Setting: Clinical environment with Class I exposure hazards.
• Physical Demands: Medium work requiring the ability to lift 25 pounds frequently and occasionally lift a maximum of 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, and reach.
• Work Contact Group: Interaction with all services, medical staff, patients, visitors, and various regulatory and professional agencies.

Pay

Pay range: $27.85–$35.87 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
