Licensed Practical Nurse
About the role
The Corrections LPN position at the St. Louis County Justice Services Center in Clayton involves performing nursing duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Responsibilities
- Prepares and refills medication carts to administer prescribed medication to residents inside the housing units.
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage and time of administration on specified forms or records.
- Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or administers medications using specified procedures.
- Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medication and prepares reports or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
- Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
- Records and restocks medication inventories.
- Provides education and teaching to promote resident wellness.
- Performs additional duties in accordance with the parameters of a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Requirements
- Completion of a one-year training program at an accredited school for Practical Nurses and licensure as a Practical Nurse by the State of Missouri.
- 10% shift differential for evenings worked.
- $1.25 hourly addition to pay for hours worked up to a maximum of $100 per pay period for candidates with ACLS Certification.
- Full-time LPNs can choose between a day/evening rotating shift or a straight evening shift, including every other weekend and alternate holidays.
- No straight day shifts offered.
- Typical shifts are 8 hours.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include completion of a one-year training program and licensure as a Practical Nurse by the State of Missouri.
- Additional information on the selection process, including the importance of recent and appropriate education and experience, answers to supplemental questions, and the use of a Conviction Questionnaire.
Skills
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols.
- Ability to observe and document vital signs and responses to medication.
- Effective communication skills to interact with residents and report observations.
- Basic knowledge of patient wellness promotion techniques.

Pay
Hourly rate varies based on experience and qualifications, with a potential 10% shift differential for evenings worked. Candidates with ACLS certification receive an additional $1.25 per hour.
