Licensed Practical Nurses provide nursing care at Ely State Prison, working directly with inmates to set care priorities and adapt to emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Collect and document medical conditions
- Initiate emergency care and relay shift information to ensure quality of care
- Maintain nursing records and physicians' orders
- Carry out nursing care assignments and administer medications
- Monitor controlled substances and observe patients for medication side effects and allergic reactions
- Participate in patient education to promote independence when possible
- Assess patient health status through observation and documentation
- Assist with therapeutic procedures and provide emergency medical treatment such as CPR and first aid
- Prepare and maintain medical treatment rooms
- Provide health education to patients and families
- Assist with activities of daily living
- Delegate appropriate duties to auxiliary personnel
- Maintain safety and well-being using the least restrictive interventions for patients who may be hostile and combative
- Complete incident reports
- Perform related duties as assigned
