Licensed Occupational Therapist (Hand Therapy) (4128)

This is a clinical, on-site position performing patient care duties for patients needing hand therapy treatment, as well as teaching medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.

Responsibilities

• 80% Clinical
  • Reviews charts and recommends or provides appropriate rehabilitative intervention.
  • Reviews prescriptions and schedules evaluations, treatments, and/or splints.
  • Provides prompt attention to referrals, using resources efficiently.
  • Participates in reviewing treatment plans, modalities, and splints to ensure alignment with identified goals.
  • Monitors patient progress between physician visits; notifies physician when necessary.
  • Suggests modifications to treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Develops home or community programming to maintain and enhance client performance in their environment.
  • Ensures termination of services when benefits are optimally achieved.
  • Documents results of client evaluation, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services.
• 5% Administration
  • Evaluates and recommends new technology applications for state-of-the-art hand therapy procedures.
  • Assists in devising and updating time-oriented protocols for upper extremity rehabilitation in collaboration with physicians.
  • Assists in determining and monitoring documentation systems for patient treatment in line with institutional requirements.
  • Assists in planning and directing the receipt, storage, maintenance, and distribution of department supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures a professional environment is maintained in therapist/client relationships and the physical clinic space.
  • Attends professional development meetings.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a clinical fieldwork program for occupational therapy students.
• 5% Teaching
  • Participates in developing and implementing undergraduate curricula in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
  • Engages directly in Plastic Surgery residency training and other relevant residency programs.
  • Participates in continuing education programs for clinical faculty and practicing physicians.
  • Serves as a role model in teaching within Occupational Therapy.
• 5% Research
  • Promotes research and scholarly activity within the Division by example and encouragement.
  • Participates in research endeavors.
  • Serves as a role model as an investigator and medical writer.
• 5% Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role.

Requirements

• Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a registered occupational therapist by the State of Illinois, with a letter of authorization from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) allowing supervised practice.

• Knowledge of occupational therapy techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups.
• Understanding of human behavior, performance, learning, and motivation, as well as assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
