Part-time, non-exempt staff position up to 16 hours per week. Mandatory shift coverage includes weekends and evenings; extra daytime hours available during semester breaks. Expected end date: May 31, 2027, with potential for renewal based on funding and performance.

About the role

The Library Services Desk Assistant is the front-line service provider responsible for essential library operations and patron support.

Responsibilities

  • Open and/or close the library according to the established schedule, respond to building emergencies, ensure appropriate use of library resources and facilities, and inform supervisory staff of any issues.
  • Check-in and check-out library materials, renew items, and help maintain accurate circulation records.
  • Provide direct assistance to users with reference and informational questions through in-person, email, and chat channels.
  • Oversee undergraduate student workers during assigned shifts (typically evenings and weekends) and provide guidance in performing their job duties.
  • Actively support and contribute to the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
  • Perform additional duties such as project work or shelving as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Two or more years of customer service or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working in a library setting and/or with undergraduate students.
  • Library circulation experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Occasionally lift and carry objects (books and boxes of books) up to 25 pounds unassisted.

Pay

$12.00 per hour. The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
