About the role
The Library Media Assistant III performs a variety of responsible technical work related to circulation, reference, and cataloging functions within the assigned library/media center facility. The incumbent receives general to limited supervision from a school site principal.
Responsibilities
- Participates in the receipt and processing of library/media center materials, including books, textbooks, periodicals, films, video cassettes, and other media.
- Reviews and evaluates library/media materials for cataloging; assigns catalog numbers, develops reference information, and types/proofs catalog/inventory cards.
- Performs circulation activities, including checking materials in/out, maintaining records, and managing logs.
- Maintains inventory of library/media materials and assists in tracking lost items.
- Supervises and facilitates library/media center use, including answering reference inquiries, assisting with card catalogs, and supporting AV equipment use.
- Develops forms, notices, and procedures for library/media center operations.
- Shelves and stores library materials, textbooks, and equipment.
- Trains, directs, and supervises student and/or volunteer assistants.
- Establishes and implements textbook check-in/out procedures; inventories and stores textbooks.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair of audio-visual equipment and library materials.
- Makes presentations and participates in training regarding library/media center resources and services.
- Assists other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
- Participates in district meetings of library clerks to communicate information and gain feedback.
Requirements
- One (1) year of prior job-related experience in an educational setting and general clerical work.
- High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by coursework in library, media, or curriculum.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, negative pre-employment drug screen, and negative TB test results.
- Successful completion of District Proficiency Test.
Skills
- Typing/keyboarding accurately at 30 words per minute (certificate required).
- Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and basic computer applications.
- Strong written and verbal English skills, including correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of library/media center terminology, operations, and practices.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
- Physical abilities: prolonged sitting, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing, near visual acuity.
- Logical reasoning, responsibility, and good judgment.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair of audio-visual equipment.

Pay
Pay Range: $22.230 - $29.289 per hour (Range 28, prorated).
Schedule
- Full-time, 7 hours per day, 215 days per year.
- Shift: 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
