Library Media Assistant (K-12)

About the role

The Library Media Assistant supports the instructional program by providing library services and instructional assistance. They assist students and staff with library resources, technology, and research, maintain an organized library environment, manage circulation, and support library technology.

Responsibilities

• Support the Library Media Specialist in providing library services and instructional assistance.
• Aid students and staff with library resources, technology, and research.
• Maintain an organized, welcoming, and functional library environment.
• Manage circulation, including checking materials in and out.
• Sherve, organize, and inventory library materials.
• Create displays and prepare instructional materials.
• Promote responsible use of library resources and facilities.
• Assist with daily library operations and other assigned duties.

Additional Job Functions

• Assist with student supervision and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
• Support literacy initiatives, reading programs, and library events.
• Help troubleshoot basic technology issues for students and staff.
• Process new materials, including labeling, covering, and catalog preparation.
• Maintain displays, bulletin boards, and promotional materials.
• Monitor and encourage appropriate student behavior in the library.
• Collaborate with staff to support classroom and schoolwide instructional needs.
• Assist with special projects, reports, and administrative tasks as needed.
• Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
• Contribute to creating an engaging and student-centered library experience.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a current Missouri substitute teacher certification and possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
