Library Media Assistant

Essential Job Functions

• Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
• Demonstrates ethical and confidential behavior.

• Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
• Maintain behavior appropriate to performing and accomplishing assigned duties.
• Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials.
• Aid teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
• Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires.
• Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
• Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
• Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
• Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
• Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
• Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
• Participate at curriculum meetings.
• Counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
• Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library's patrons.
• Prepare and administer the library budget.
• Supervise library assistants in the performance of their duties.

Additional Job Functions

• Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned by the Library Supervisor or principal.

Minimum Qualifications

AA Degree or 60 approved college hours.

Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
