About the role

The Fort Dodge Public Library is seeking a friendly, organized, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Assistant II (Full-Time).

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse community.
  • Perform circulation duties: checking materials in/out, issuing cards, processing holds, and managing overdue/lost items.
  • Afford assistance patrons with library equipment, computers, the catalog, and basic technology troubleshooting.
  • Staff the Adult or Children's Services desks, providing basic reference, reader's advisory, and interlibrary loan support.
  • Create promotional displays, flyers, and handouts.
  • Support library programs and special projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality and enforce library policies professionally.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two (2) years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to pass a background check, physical exam, and drug screen.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree or some college coursework.
  • Previous library or public sector experience.
  • Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System or library classification systems.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
