About the role
The Fort Dodge Public Library is seeking a friendly, organized, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Assistant II (Full-Time).
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse community.
- Perform circulation duties: checking materials in/out, issuing cards, processing holds, and managing overdue/lost items.
- Afford assistance patrons with library equipment, computers, the catalog, and basic technology troubleshooting.
- Staff the Adult or Children's Services desks, providing basic reference, reader's advisory, and interlibrary loan support.
- Create promotional displays, flyers, and handouts.
- Support library programs and special projects.
- Maintain confidentiality and enforce library policies professionally.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two (2) years of customer service experience.
- Ability to pass a background check, physical exam, and drug screen.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
- Preferred: Associate’s degree or some college coursework.
- Previous library or public sector experience.
- Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System or library classification systems.
- Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
