About the role
This position performs a full range of legal secretarial assignments in support of the director of the Bureau's Regulatory Compliance Division and other division staff. Responsibilities include researching and preparing materials, interpreting division policies and procedures, and responding to telephone calls and written inquiries from the general public, parties to administrative proceedings, and attorneys.
Frequent interaction is required with employees within the division and other work areas within the Bureau, the Department of Attorney General, the Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science, the Unarmed Combat Commission, and the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules.
Responsibilities
- Schedule meetings, conferences, and formal hearings
- Prepare routine notices, proofs of service, orders, legal pleadings, motions, briefs, and orders
- Copy, scan, securely transmit, upload, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive documents and information
- Prepare, redact, compile, and maintain public records, reports, and general correspondence
Requirements
- Education typically acquired through completion of high school
- For Legal Secretary 7: Two years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including one year equivalent to 6-level administrative support experience
- For Legal Secretary E8: Three years of office experience involving administrative support practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Notary public appointment or candidates with past notary appointment
