Legal Practice Assistant
About the role
Burr & Forman LLP is seeking a full-time Legal Practice Assistant in our Birmingham, AL office in our Healthcare practice group. This role will provide a variety of administrative, litigation, and corporate legal support services with an intense focus on providing exceptional service to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, and proof contracts, agreements, deal documents, briefs, memos, reports, pleadings, correspondence and other similar documents
- Perform complex administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and legal processes
- E-filing documents in district/state/federal courts
- Schedule and coordinate logistics for meetings, travel, depositions, and hearings
- Maintain calendars including court appearances and transaction deadlines
- Enter billable time and edit time and pre-bills as needed
- Process expense reimbursements
- Answer incoming calls; prepare documents for shipment; and distribute mail
- Open and maintain client files and organizational documents
- Respond to inquiries for information
- Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience as a legal secretary/assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Proficient with computer programs including Microsoft Word and ability to type 50 wpm
- Highly organized, detail-orientated, proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team
- Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
