Legal Assistant

About the role

A maritime law firm is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support attorneys handling admiralty and maritime matters. This role will provide critical administrative and legal support in a fast-paced practice focused on complex litigation, regulatory, and commercial matters involving the maritime industry.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to attorneys
• Draft, edit, proofread, and format correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and other legal documents
• Manage calendars, court deadlines, hearings, meetings, and travel arrangements
• File legal documents with courts and agencies, including e-filing when applicable
• Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files
• Coordinate communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and vendors
• Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, binders, witness materials, and scheduling
• Track billing, expenses, and attorney time entry
• Support compliance, contract management, litigation, and document review processes
• Conduct basic legal and factual research as needed

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Litigation Assistant, or similar legal support professional
• Prior experience in maritime, admiralty, insurance defense, personal injury, or commercial litigation preferred
• Strong knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, and document formatting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative legal team
