About the Role
Under moderate supervision, the Legal Assistant provides mid-to-high level administrative support to designated attorneys, paralegals, and the Firm. This role promotes and maintains the Firm’s good will and reputation while upholding the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Provide specific secretarial support for several attorneys in various legal specialties.
- Gather relevant information and documents, or compile data from a variety of sources under direction.
- Perform a wide variety of typing assignments, which may be confidential and require research.
- Compose, edit, revise, tabulate, and print letters, tables, reports, and other materials.
- Prepare documents and correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology and formats, such as contracts, briefs, policies, and pleadings.
- Establish, maintain, process, and/or oversee files, correspondence, databases, records, certificates, and other documents.
- Provide follow-up with appropriate departments to ensure compliance with agreements, attorney requests, and related issues.
- Interact with other secretaries to assist with heavy workloads or coverage.
- Support attorneys as a backup when other secretaries are out of the office.
- Schedule appointments and maintain attorney schedules, including coordinating meetings, conferences, travel, lodging, and facilities.
- May lead, guide, and train staff performing related work.
Requirements
- High School Diploma is required; Associate or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of administrative support experience; 5+ years preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other office products.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, form, and style.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to create, compose, proof, and edit correspondence.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures; ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
